I have a small place in my heart of hearts for cake stands, glass tier plates, chunky candy dish pedestals. There’s something about them that whispers: I am Queen of all that is old school domestic and I possess a keen eye for entertaining. In my search for wedding centerpiece options, I found some key, clear glass and some silver-rimmed pieces at various thrift stores. What a score. I should take pics and post here…

More to covet:

These top three pics from Iacoli & McAllister, based out of their studio in Seattle!

This one made from a candlestick and tea saucer, then painted and lacquered by a shop called Your Dirty Laudry found on Etsy (Iacoli & McAllister implements the same method). Some people who marry parts together do it well, like here … some do not. I’ve seen a ton of sellers trying to capitalize on the cake stand market with this idea, but their pieces come out looking like antique road show junk. Hey, I love the idea of repurposing old things, but do it with some modern style, people! Another of example of someone getting it right:

Speaking of DIY, found this on Once Wed blog – instructions for tree branch pedestals! Char ming!

These top two handmade, from Vessel and Wares on Etsy. Girly, girly, girly. They even look like they’ve been iced!
