I have recently gotten into House Beautiful. Throughout the years it has been synonymous in my head with Better Homes and Gardens or Redbook–innocuous American domesticity with little to no edge. Same with Sunset (and look at how awesome Sunset became! Could it have been an injection of perspective from Dwell editor Allison Arieff?) In a world of Domino, Elle Decor and Elle Decor UK, Living Etc., Metropolitan Home et al., I never gave it so much as a side glance. In the recent past though, it has been my go-to home magazine. They had a redesign (surely they weren’t always like this) with extremely thoughtful typography and an authoritative, upscale tone. They can be categorized as relatable modern, color-conscious, and thoroughly American. Whenever I see their covers, I’m filled with glee at the type treatments. We WILL be featured in this magazine for love + scorn.

Btw, I love the fat serif display font. What is it?

There, I’ve typed it.
